THREE ROUNDAVELS | MPUMALANGA | SOUTH AFRICA

I visited Graskop in Mpumalanga (South Africa) to celebrate my birthday last year. It was my 30th, so I wanted to create lasting memories, I wanted to do something fulfilling, so Graskop Mpumalanga was the pick.

Accommodation

We (went with my husband) stayed at Mogodi Lodge. This lodge is situated right where the big swing and Graskop Gorge Falls are. Now, I didn't really like the lodge, from an interior perspective. The room decor just didn't rock my world. I love beautifully decorated rooms, honestly. They just make my stay so much better.

On the flip side, the lodge restaurant was great. I particularly loved their fresh breakfast and the VIEWS. We went for a table on the deck overlooking the beautiful gorge. AH-Mazing.

Things to do

We wanted to tour the "Panorama Route", so we decided to start with the Echo Caves situated just off the R36 to Mashishing. Now this place is reach with the history of the Bapedi people of Limpopo. These caves are said to have been their home during previous tribal wars as well as wars against the Voortrekkers. You need to wear comfortable clothing for this tour, you'll be going up and down a lot of stairs, climbing and almost crawling into some tight spots.

Next we visited the famous Three Roundavels, AH-MAZING. The views are everything. It's so serene and beautiful. It's one of those places where you need to take a "young" minute and take it in, really take it in.

Bourkes Luck Potholes,

Guys this place is beautiful (I know I've now overused the word), it really is. See the pics below.

God's Window

The reason this place is called "god's window"is because of the views. You have to see it to get it, I can't really explain it. It's BEAUTIFUL!!!! (Unfortunately I didn't get good pictures here, so, again, you have to see it to get it)

On our drive back home on Sunday, we decided to pass by the Mac Mac Falls.

I still plan to visit Mpumalanga again, because there's still a lot to be seen there. Next time I go, I plan to go to try out the Big Swing (I couldn't do it then because I had a bun in the oven), a cruise on the Blyde River Canyon, check out the many other falls...the list goes on. A weekend is just not enough.

COST - it honestly was a very affordable tour guys. The entrance fees to the various sites ranged from R 0 - R 50 per person or per car. The biggest costs were transport (we drove), accommodation and food (not so much).

Have you been to the Panorama Route in Mpumalanga, if so, please share your experience. I'd love to hear from you!!

Thanks a lot DL for your comment. And you are absolutely right, we have such a BEAUTIFUL country that we don't need thousands of rands to explore. I also had the mind-set that I needed bags of money to actually travel.

Local is definitely lekker.

I agree that you have to see if for yourself! The budget, time needed to travel and exploration is all a mind-set. We don’t all have to rush to OR-T and board the next plane north to “travel”. Start local and know your own country.

Think of the diversity and the natural beauty South Africa has to offer. Then consider that our tourism industry is bigger than the mining industry. This must tell you that we are “on a gold mine” in terms of local travels.

Get inspired, go and make it your own SA.

Nelson Mandela "I believe that South Africa is the most beautiful place on earth. Admittedly, I am biased, but when you combine the natural beauty…
