I had always struggled with relaxed hair, be it hair breakage, thinning hair, stagnant hair, the list goes on. On the other hand, (although I desired it) I dreaded natural hair because I thought it's difficult and painful to maintain.

Well, my desire turned into an urge to try it out. I did some research online and I went for. Years later, I haven't looked back, and needless to say, I love my natural hair.

A lot of people have always been asking me how I achieved this and how I take care of it, so here are some tips:

STOP using relaxers and dyes

Obviously, resist the urge to relax your hair again.

Use the right Products and Tools

Avoid products that contain "sulphates". This particular ingredient strips your hair of its natural oils, causing it to dry out and break.

I used a mixture of oils when I started out, coconut oil + olive oil + castor oil. I just mixed them up and lathered my hair with the mixture.

I also filled a spray bottle with water and hydrated my hair with it. Water is GOOD for your hair. Spray it everyday, keep it hydrated.

A product that really helped me with hair growth is the Afro-Botanics Super Hair Growth Creme. This can be found at most Clicks stores or Game stores or you can try their online shopping website ( https://www.afro-botanics.com/) for this creme and more of their other products.

Use a wide-toothed comb to detangle your hair. Fine-toothed combs are a big no no for natural hair.

STOP using heat to dry/style your hair

Heat weakens your hair, causing breakage, so avoid avoid avoid. So instead, I used natural drying method. Easily explained, after washing your hair and moisturizing it, section it and do either two or three strand twists. Keep them overnight, and undo them the following day. Your hair should be dry and stretched out by then.

Trim your hair regularly

I trimmed my hair once a month. This I did while my hair was wet, (it made it easier for me to see the relaxed ends).

Choose Protective styling

I kept my hair in braids and twists frequently. This way the hair is less likely to break from the friction of daily combing and brushing. And in winter, your hair won't be dried out by the harsh winter weather.

However, braided hair is not forgotten hair. You still moisturize your hair and spray with some water, DAILY.

A braid care spray i swear by is the one by Style & Image (see picture below). This spray keeps your hair soft and moisturized throughout. I absolutely love it.

So, if you are keen to grow and nurture your natural hair, try these out. However, don't be limited to these tips, do your research and learn more tips. They say "We learn everyday", and that is also true for the natural hair journey.

Leave me a comment, share your own tips, ask me a question....I'd love to hear from you.
